5 SnowRunner myths tested

In this video I talk look at some common SnowRunner myths to see whether there is any truth to them. While showcasing a Volvo.

Supposedly a lie can make it round the world twice before the truth has time to put its trousers on. That’s probably why a number of SnowRunner myths have prevailed in the face of truth.

So I thought I would take a look at some common SnowRunner statements to see how true or false they really are. Like and subscribe for more videos.

1) Neutral saves fuel

In real life the answer about whether coasting saves more fuel than being in gear is more complicated than a simple yes or no. Engine type, the route you are on and various other factors come into play.
In SnowRunner, however, neutral seems to have little or no effect on how much liquid gold a truck drinks. Nor does it let you gain speed on descents.

2) Neutral and gas = faster winch

Supposedly, using neutral and burying the accelerator to rev the engine speeds up the speed you can winch trucks, trailers and yourself. For the first two, I tried this and it made absolutely no difference to speed.

Winching yourself, however, is usually fastest when also accelerating so this process might actually be slower in neutral and detrimental to fuel economy. You may as well go for speed and stay in gear or leave the gas off and save fuel.

3) Chained tyres better on snow

This is a good one I see a lot. Do chained tyres make you better in snow in SnowRunner? According to the well-known tyre chart, mud tyres actually do best in snow. However, some swear by off-road alternatives so perhaps the answer is less clear cut.

Well, to find out I found some snow and tried a variety of trucks with chained tyres. Chains on the back, full chains. Turns out, I would stick with mud or offroad for the white stuff.

4) The higher tyre number isn’t always the best

This one relates to the tyre chart and I remember when I started SnowRunner this was something I got confused about. Turns out, the III and IV tyres give you better mud ability at the expense of road and dirt. I and II variants do the opposite. Therefore it depends on application.

5) Shortcuts are shorter

And my last fact is that shortcuts are faster – and this is probably true in any other game and sometimes real life. But almost never is it a good idea to take the seemingly quick route in SnowRunner as you will spend longer getting yourself unstuck.
