SnowRunner next-gen update arriving in Phase 7?

I bring potentially good news for the long-awaited SnowRunner next-gen update for PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S.

One of the most popular comments on A Tribe Called Cars these days concerns the SnowRunner next-gen update. When is it, where is it, what is it – you get the picture. Well, I do have a modestly sized piece of news to share on the subject.

After all, we were told the PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S-specific update, which is likely going to bump the framerate from 30 to 60 frames per second for improved smoothness and maybe add some visual enhancements, was a thing so very long ago. The suspense is killing us.

Now let’s not get too carried away. The information I have appears to confirm the existence of the next-gen files hidden within the accidental oopsie update that was put on the Public Test Server. However, nothing is official.

Located in the 16.1 Public Test Server update files, you could see the usual PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC PAK mentions. PAK being an archiving file system used in SnowRunner and MudRunner. Nothing exciting.

However, courtesy of my super spy, for the first time ever we saw a mention of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X files. Dramatic chipmunk time.

Now I’m not saying this is confirmation of the SnowRunner next-gen update. However things that appear in the files on the Public Test Server (PTS) do typically end up in the retail game. And this was an accidental update so you would assume more sensitive, secretive data would be lurking in there.

Going one step further, the timing of the PS5 and Xbox Series X file appearance would suggest the SnowRunner next-gen update is potentially on the cards for Phase 7: Compete & Conquer, which takes place in Tennessee. Or perhaps shortly after but before Phase 8.

Of course, what if I am wrong? Well, for starters do not send out angry messages via carrier pigeon. I’m still clearing up after all the complaints about my Zikz 605R video guide. Good times.

But let’s assume the update was delayed beyond Phase 7 or Phase 8. Would that not hint at the possibility of a Year Three Pass? As opposed to SnowRunner 2: The Sequel. I can see Saber Interactive going either way.

Which outcome is my money on? Well, would you prioritise and develop a SnowRunner next-gen update knowing the sequel, Milton Keynes Runner, was just around the corner? Seems unlikely to me. But what do I know? I’m just an idiot who makes videos about digital trucks.

While it would have been nice to see a specific mention of 60 frames per second within the accidental SnowRunner PTS update, at least it appears the developers are working on it. Bring on the SnowRunner next-gen update release date comments!

And that is it for this quick SnowRunner news video. Given how many people know about the new Step 33-64, I thought I would show you an early build of it in action. Hence the lack of engine noise and horn. Subscribe and like for more videos. Take care, homescones. Bye.
