Goodwood Revival 2018 has been and gone. Ben Griffin got dressed up, 50s Steve McQueen and James Dean style, and went on the Friday to take some photos.
Goodwood Revival 2018. For me it is the best motoring show of the year, mainly because there is nothing quite like it. From the sheer spectacle of seeing thousands of people dressed up in fashion of the 1940s to the 1960s, to the legendary, highly expensive classic and vintage cars being raced at their limit (or near), it really is special.
Hell, you need not even like cars. Grab a Pimms, bask in the sun and watch and listen to old-style dancing, take in a fashion show and buy yourself something vintage. There is something to keep everyone amused. Well, almost.
Because of the efforts people go to and because Goodwood Motor Circuit is pretty, it is a sensational place to take photos. There are so many things to see that it can actually be daunting, especially if you have a decent pass (thank you, Ford) that lets you into the Paddock and other usually off-limit areas.
Fortunately, my Sony A7RII and my Leica Summicron R 50mm F2, it was a hazy day with the odd grey cloud making an appearance. Perfect for getting consistent, easily gradable photos. The problem for me was trying to capture something that little bit different.
Whether or not I did is up to you, but hopefully I have captured some of the magic of Goodwood Revival 2018 in the gallery above. I decided to go with a vintage-style edit because it fits perfectly. I am also a shameless fan of that timeless look captured by much older, less technically-savvy cameras.
Feel free to share some of your own photos in the comments. Having scoured the #goodwoodrevival Instagram hashtag and similar, I’ve seen some truly incredible photos. If you were unable to make Goodwood Revival this year, hopefully see you at the next one!
