How to wall mount Z906 speakers

Here is how to wall mount the Z906 speakers for that improved surround sound goodness, including which screws are needed and where to buy.

If you own or are thinking of buying the Z906 5.1 surround sound speaker system, there’s a good chance you’ve considered wall mounting at least two of the speakers to save space and improve the sound quality. The only problem is, you don’t get any screws in the box for the job, which is why I’ve decided to put pen to paper in my ‘how to wall mount Z906 speakers’ guide (this article was previously published on License to Quill).

Official Z906 wall mount method

Having spoken to Logitech PR and Logitech’s customer services, I found out about an official option you can happily purchase in the UK. Known as the In/Out Camera Mounting Kit, Logitech Alert 750i, 750e & Speaker System Z906, it comes with all the bits and bobs you need to attach one speaker to a wall.

At £10 apiece plus a further £9.58 in shipping costs and tax, expect to pay just under £30. Not the cheapest option out of the two but at least you know it will work.

Unofficial Z906 wall mount method

Having already bought a set of the TechSol universal speaker wall mounts from Amazon UK (£17.99) before I knew about the Logitech official wall mounting kit, I decided to see if I could purchase the screws needed to do the job because the ones you get in the box are too small.

A quick Google revealed the screws I need are in fact based on the US screw system: 1/4-20 UNC x 1/2inch, which basically means 1/4inch thread diameter x 20 threads per pitch and 1/2inch long.

A quick trip to B&Q and Maplins proved unsuccessful. Luckily Amazon UK (and presumably Amazon US, Canada etc) came to the rescue after a bit of Googling and I was able to purchase the screws.

If you happen to have the same TechSol wall speaker mounts as I do, you will be pleased to know the two mounting holes will just about accommodate the screws mentioned above which means no drilling is required. Considering the two speaker holes are a bit too close together and plastic can be quite brittle, this is a blessing.

If you are going for a different wall mounting kit it’s probably best to check the screw hole diameters or risk a bit of extra work that could go wrong.

Where should you mount the speakers?

Dolby suggests you mount your rear wall speakers about one or two feet above your ears. They should point downwards and towards the middle of the room to help their directional abilities come out. Obviously don’t fret too much about the location, just ensure both speakers are the same height as each other and behind where you sit.

I tested out my Z906 speakers with the back satellites at ear level and closer together followed by two feet above further apart. While the difference isn’t huge, you should notice a definite improvement in their ability to convey directional sounds.
