Mild off-roaders are common these days, but not all are like the recently unveiled Alpine A110 SportsX concept. Read on for all the details and photos.
Renault-owned maker of motoring lust Alpine has just shown off an off-roading take on the A110 sports coupe. It goes by the name of the Alpine A110 SportsX concept and it’s a throwback to the A110’s rally stint in the 1970s.
Most noticeable is the fact the ride height has increased by 60mm so it’s easier to drive over things, while the car is 80mm wider mainly to improve stability but also look extra mean.
There have been no engine changes to the Alpine A110 SportsX concept, which is based on the entry-level A110 Pure model you can buy. So you’ll just have to trundle through fields and up mountains with 249bhp and 239lb/ft of torque.
Why did I say ‘can buy’? Yeah, hate to break it to you but the French manufacturer’s creation is staying away from retail for now. Hopefully it’s more than just a marketing campaign. You could, of course, try to own the A110 Rally designed for competition for a similar-ish vibe.
Speaking of images, you may have noticed other aesthetic changes such as the rally-style tape over the circular headlights, black contrasting areas such as the bonnet and a rack for a pair of skis. Because who knows when you’ll want to carve up fresh snow with a companion.
The 1970s rally A110 is fondly remembered for not just looking great. It won the 1971 Monte Carlo rally and later a World Rally Championship two years on. Head on over to the Alpine A110 website for a look at a car that was good enough to make James May buy one.
