Though I have not yet completed every mission, task and contract – total noob, I know – I can tell you that to rescue certain trucks in Expeditions reminds me of SnowRunner’s Amur. Punishing is an understatement.
Except in Expeditions, you cannot repair or refuel the trucks you are trying to rescue, there are no unlimited fuel stations out in the wilderness and each failed run costs you money to enter and equip for.
Success is more than just about your sanity, then, so here are some tricks I learned while rescuing the Tatra Force T815-7, KRS 58 Bandit and everything else the game has to offer. Here is how to unlock all trucks.
Please note: This is the script from my YouTube video, click play above to watch or click here.
Do not skimp on fuel. This may sound obvious, but some of these Expeditions truck rescues are tough as old boots. At least two of them saw me use hundreds of litres and nearly have to start again. Remember that it is cheaper to stock up on fuel than restart a mission entirely.
Keep an eye out for airdrops so you can keep your own supply topped up. Use trucks with eight slots of cargo, go all out on fuel and worry little about repairs. Honestly, you cannot have too much for the KRS 58 Bandit and Tatra Force T815-7.
My second tip is related to the first. Not only should you bring lots of fuel, use less of it. Unlocking the Khan 39 Marshall also unlocks mechanic Michelle Redrock who reduces fuel consumption by 15 per cent, damage by 15 per cent and supplies consumption by 30 per cent.
Michelle Redrock is obviously not just useful for truck rescues but generally. The Khan 39 Marshall is not especially difficult to unlock – the task is called ‘Where Trucks Dare Not Tread’ in the SlipRock Swamps of the Carpathians.
Alternatively, you can unlock fellow mechanic Dmytro Koval by completing ‘Right Person for Right Job’. The task is located in the Mountain Labrynths of the Carpathians and also unlocks the ANK MK 38 Civilian.
He costs 800 to use each drive instead of 1,400 for Michelle and reduces fuel consumption by 20 per cent. He also gives a 30 per cent bonus to armor on start and the bonus ‘can repair anywhere’.
Another very relevant staff member to unlock is Mitch Goodman. The task is called ‘Proof of Strength’ and the East Outpost of Wahweap Bay in Arizona is nearest. Why bother, Mr Tribe?
Because he has two bonuses specific to rescuing stuck and sunken trucks. The first is a 10-metre winch range bonus, which is okay but not particularly necessary. It is the second bonus that matters – a 30 per cent boost to winch power.
Yes, those moments where your winch and engine are seemingly not enough to get trucks up steep hills could be a thing of the past. You can either combine with sheer power for easier rescues or utilise a smaller truck for whatever reason though I would still prioritise fuel capacity and power.
Another tip if you want to rescue trucks in Expeditions is to save fuel in the truck you are towing. Though you do not necessarily get a big help, some trucks such as the Tatra Force T815-7 become virtually impossible to drag up a steep hill when empty and there is no way to add more.
Pull trucks without the engine on when the ground is flat or not too difficult and switch it on when the going gets tough. You cannot check the exact fuel level within a menu, but the tanks will highlight how much is left. Green is good, red is bad.
Another useful tip for Expeditions in general, not just truck rescues: Plot twice, drive once. Yes, this is the digital equivalent of measure twice, cut once. Because a good route will stop you wasting fuel, avoid the need to turn round and help reduce things getting tippy.
If the in-game map is not enough, MapRunner has a 3D map for Expeditions. Not only does it show you where everything is, you can more easily tell what is passable and what is not. Alternatively, use the drone as you go or – shameless plug – one of my trusty truck-specific video guides.
Lastly, consider unlocking the Cargo Drone (as seen in another video) because this allows you to remotely access fuel and repair points from your base anywhere on the same map. With drone operator Lance Silva you can also trade items.
And that is it for how to rescue trucks in Expeditions: A MudRunner Game. Obviously a dose of patience and driver skill goes a long way. Like and subscribe if you found the video useful. Let me know your tips in the comments too. Take care, bye.
