The Ride 5 release date has been announced – the sequel to my favourite motorbike game and the Gran Turismo of two-wheelers. Here is what has been revealed, including a look at the first trailer and the release date.

For those who like two-wheeled simulator racing action, you may like to know that Ride 5 has been announced by its developer, Milestone.

The latest Ride 5 details were released as part of a press release, which goes into quite a bit of detail about what to expect. This includes new race types, multiplayer improvements and a new career mode.

What is new in Ride 5?

Unlike Ride 4 and previous games, Ride 5 gets a narrated career mode in which events are introduced and guidance is provided. There will also be a leaderboard to track your career progress as well as 10 rivals – each with their “own personalities, backgrounds and aesthetics”.

In addition to the main races, Milestone says to expect secondary challenges. That takes the Ride 5 total to 200 playable events.

Speaking of racing, Milestone has also added in-race saves and the ability to rewind in endurance races. So no need to leave your PC or console on pause until you have the time to finish them.

For those it applies to, Ride 5 is said to feature various “technological improvements that will fully exploit the potential of new gen consoles and top-range PCs”. In doing so, you can expect enhanced realism and authenticity.

One particular addition is the new Dynamic Weather System. This uses real-time track and air temperatures to provide more realistic and ever-changing conditions during a race.

Clouding your thoughts

Meanwhile, taking a look to the skies will reveal proper clouds as opposed to the 2D system in Ride 4. That means photo-based 3D volumetric clouds that act like real clouds.

What about the Ride 5 physics and handling? Well, Milestone said: “Technological improvements also affects the motorbike physics, which have been improved in every aspect, from the interaction between the rider and bike to the different lean-angle speeds for each bike category.”

Continuing a recent and very much welcome trend in racing games, Ride 5 promises to have split-screen multiplayer. Yes, the days of two-player racing on one screen is back – a feature last seen in Ride 2.

Cross-platform multiplayer can be enjoyed, too, with players able to compete between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Series S and PC (via Steam and Epic Games). World leaderboards have been promised. Hopefully they include the platform a time was set on.

Customisation what?

Now we come to customisation. In Ride 5 you get something called Race Creator, in which you can create races. This includes races, championships, the rules, the bikes that can enter and more. But, seemingly, not circuit layouts.

Ride 5 customisation extends to livery creation of bikes, suits and helmets, all of which can be shared online between different platforms – not just the PC or console you are playing on.

Addressing a common issue of most motorbike games, will Ride 5 be more accessible? The answer is I will need to play to find out. However, the developers have promised “an enhanced set of riding aids” including ideal trajectory, automatic steering, automatic throttle and assisted brakes.

As for a bike list, this is yet to be released but if Ride 4 is anything to go by there will be a comprehensive roster – Forza and Gran Turismo style. But probably not current MotoGP bikes as they get their own games.

When is the Ride 5 release date?

Maybe you want to know the Ride 5 release date? Milestone has promised the 24th of August 2023. As alluded to previously, there will not be a PS4 or Xbox One release. It is next-gen consoles and PC (via Epic and Steam) only – a first for Milestone.

Milestone actually said “starting” on the 24th of August. This hints we may well see a Deluxe Edition with an earlier release date than the cheaper version. A common practice these days. Or maybe early access on Steam.

There you have it. The Ride 5 trailer, release date and juicy details. If you want to know more or simply found the video useful, subscribe, like and let me know what you would like to see in the Ride 4 sequel.

Until next time, homescones. Cheers to my Patreons (past and present).
