SnowRunner Generator: How to use it

Want to know how to use the SnowRunner Generator trailer? Well, here is a quick guide.

SnowRunner is all about delivering cargo, which you can get from various places around each map. Sometimes, however, you need something called a Generator – a trailer that, as you may have guessed, generates something. In this case, the power used to manufacture goods for delivery.

The Generator trailer was introduced in Phase 3 Wisconsin and is also in Phase 7 Tennessee hence why I thought a quick guide might be useful for newer players (and forgetful veterans).

SnowRunner Generator: How to use it

First up, buy or find a generator trailer. In the case of Phase 7 there is one you find near the service area for a contract.

Look around the map to see if there is a free one. If not, go to the trailer store and buy. Make sure your truck can tow this particular type of trailer. If not, the trailer store will let you know.

Then hook it up to your truck using the usual menu ‘attach trailer’ option and drive it into the yellow box, known as the generator area or similar, of the relevant factory. Each cargo creation zone in Wisconsin, for example, has its own generator area.

In Tennessee, the generator area is called the Power Transformer – at least, that was the name during the Public Test Server phase. Whether or not that is still the case, look under the map objects tab for a power sign.

Keep it fuelled up

Now use the refuel option to fill the 1,500 litre capacity. Item crafting can cost between 100 and 250 litres of fuel per cargo though it varies. So it can only take a few purchases to need a fuel top-up.

Keep the generator trailer in the yellow box. The moment you move it out, it will switch off and that means no cargo purchase until you put it back. Switch it on using the SnowRunner function menu.

Remember that you cannot turn a Generator on without a vehicle attached and that reloading the game seems to turn it off so keep a truck nearby.

Once the Generator is running, as indicated by all the smoke and open doors, detach the trailer and drive over to the Supply Depot or equivalent. Now purchase whatever cargo you need.

Cargo purchase

To do so, press X or equivalent when in the crafting zone yellow box, then use the triggers or equivalent to scroll to the tab with the power sign. Here you can buy whatever you need and see the fuel cost of each cargo item.

Select purchase on whatever you want (you can buy multiple items at once) then use the upward arrow and RB, LB or equivalent to choose where to put the cargo you just bought. It can either be loaded automatically into a cargo bed and trailer or done manually using a crane.

You can also put cargo back for later use, saving you the need to buy cargo unnecessarily. It also keeps the item or items in a safe place. Simply use the downward arrow and unload whatever it is you want to unload and then press A or equivalent.

Your best bet in the case of Phase 7 Tennessee is to buy a fuel trailer from the nearby trailer store unless playing on hard mode. That way, you can easily top up the generator and then sell back the trailer once used up. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

And here ends a guide to using the generator trailer in SnowRunner, my mum must be proud. If you found the video useful, then be sure to like and subscribe. Maybe even buy me a coffee to say thanks.
