SnowRunner: RNG TX 8×8 armoured truck bridge review

The RNG TX 8×8 is part of the Armoured Truck Pack comprised three well-polished military vehicles, one of which can deploy bridges. Here is what I think of it all.

As many of you home scones may have noticed, there have been more mod trucks on the channel. Given the increasing difficulty of SnowRunner, I think it makes sense to investigate them to see which are overpowered and which are subtle for those who prefer the vanilla experience.

So when a modding team called Rng3r Group, with a three instead of an ‘e’, got in touch to try out a super-secret mod project I said yes. And these metal military monsters, complete with a camouflage paintjob, are the end result.

The download is called the RNG TX Armoured Truck Pack and is comprised the RNG TX 6×6, which is a six-wheeler off-roader, the RNG TX 6×6-2, which has rear-wheel steering, and the main event in today’s video, the RNG TX 8×8.

Not just because it’s the largest truck of the three and therefore automatically the best, nor is it to do with the fact eight-wheelers are usually great in SnowRunner. No, the main reason you should use this truck is because it can transport bridges.

This may not seem like a big deal. But it is because it can have a dramatic impact on how you approach SnowRunner. It opens a lot of doors to new gameplay mechanics and cunning tactics. Or as is usually the case on this channel, stupidity. Yay. Let’s talk about the mechanics first.

The RNG TX 8×8’s bridge trailer

The 8×8 truck has a bridge addon, which must be enabled to use the secondary TX Bridge trailer mod. I say trailer because you buy it from the Trailer Store yet the lack of wheels means it is not really good for lugging stuff around. Lots of scraping metal – doesn’t sound healthy.

Once purchased for 2,500, three colour options are available, you can open up the Function Panel and then go all the way down to the Use RNG TX Bridge option. Now it’s a case of using one of two buttons to lift the trailer up or down and another two to fold or unfold.

My inner engineering nerd finds the process of it folding neatly behind the truck way too satisfying. I think I need to lie down. As if that wasn’t enough, you can control the legs at the back for stability although the 8×8 is heavy enough to cope without. Just about.

Once folded up, now you can take the bridge wherever you want to go. Use the same controls to deploy the bridge and the detach the trailer when at your destination. That’s it.

So what can the RNG TX Bridge trailer be used for? Bridging, obviously. Specifically, you can bridge small to medium gaps to get to areas far quicker than usual or take trucks that would otherwise have never made the journey. Over rivers in Flooded Foothills or the icy gaps of death in Lake Kovd.

You can even use it to create roads over awful muddy and snowy pits of death such as that one by the pylons in Urska River of Amur. If, that is, you are happy taking the time to buy and line up a lot of RNG TX Bridge trailers.

It can even improve traction on steep slopes or reduce slope angles. But me being an idiot, the main event is exploring usually off-limit areas. Like this ship moored up in Lake Kovd (see above video).

Silly montages aside, the practicality of the RNG TX Bridge and its truck counterpart is so good you wonder why it is not an official truck from Saber Interactive. In co-op this mod really emphasises teamwork.

Any negatives?

Couple of notes. You can pack trucks onto the bridge as you can see here. I was meant to be seeing how powerful the motor is. Didn’t quite go to plan as once packed you lose the bridge controls. When it did finally work I just ended up looking like a caterpillar.

And then I was launched into the atmosphere. Yes, there are some teething troubles the mod maker is aware of. When swapping between regions I was launched into space and when swapping from one truck to another the same thing happened. You can work around it, but a fix would be helpful.

Master its intricacies and the RNG TX 8×8 and its RNG TX Bridge addon can be used for even more ridiculous activities. Want to drive on the roof of a garage or on top of a military cargo plane? Well, now you can. Yes, that’s one of the new Tatra trucks. Video coming.

However, the mod’s tour de force is the ability to create jumps. Here, I am using the stable and relatively tall Kolob 74760 as a glorified brick to rest the bridge on. And now I shall use said Tatra truck, which is laughably fast, to jump off a cliff. Well, attempt to.

As you have heard, this mod is bags of fun and useful despite a few issues. But there is no need to only use it for bridging purposes. All three RNG TX trucks are capable off-road and have numerous other useful addons.

The 8×8 can carry a lot of cargo in its lengthy cargo bed, for instance, while the smaller TX-2 is highly useful for scouting because of that rear steering. There’s even a radar for radaring things, complete with 3,500 repair points.

The two 6×6 trucks also benefit from fuel carrier addons, which have been designed in keeping with the overall aesthetic (nice touch), and you can also use a high and low saddle for hauling larger trailers.

What about RNG TX 8×8, 6×6 and 6×6-2 customisation?

RNG TX 8x8 Armoured Truck Pack truck and bridge trailer mods

As for aesthetic customisation, there are aerials and lights and not that much more. But that’s not a complaint as the 3D models are impressive enough. These trucks are enjoyable to drive and I love the little details such as the glowing switchgear when driving at night.

The RNG TX mod pack is not even too overpowered as the tyre sizes and engine outputs are balanced – particularly the standard engine. I find the performance and handling of the trucks suit their appearance.

As things stand, this mod is PC-only. Boo. However, the Rng3r Group – with a three – assures me that a console release is happening. Yes, if those bugs can be ironed out we will all be enjoying maps full of sneaky shortcuts, cliff jumps and driving on garage roofs. Happy days.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is the end of this mod truck video. Hope you enjoyed it. As usual, relevant links and information will be in the video description and pinned comment. I tend to use one or both if I make a mistake or forget something, which is most of the time. Getting old.

Anyway, thank you for watching. Be sure to subscribe and like for more SnowRunner and driving game content. Also some real car stuff soon.
