Here is how to unlock the Step 39331 “Pike” – just in case you want to unlock the Step 39331 “Pike”.

Hello and welcome to A Tribe Called let’s get into this guide. If you want to unlock the Step 39331 “Pike” (from Season 8: Grand Harvest) you need to complete the task called ‘A Gift Horse’ in the map known as The Institute.

The task name is presumably a reference to the expression, “never look a gift horse in the mouth,” which means avoid finding fault with something you have been given as a present. You ungrateful f…

Fortunately, you will not have to when you receive the Pike from SnowRunner as it is a very capable off-roader. A sort of Diet Tayga King or Tayga King Lite if you will.

Unlock the Step 39331 Pike: The task

The A Gift Horse task involves repairing the Step 39331. So get a truck capable of holding as many repair points and litres of fuel as possible. You need 521 repair points and 201 litres of fuel.

Alternatively, you could lug it back to a garage and use recover to rapidly top-up your repair points. This may not be easy or especially fast, but it does mean you mostly would need to focus on the recovery.

Let’s talk repair points. Unlike fuel, which can be siphoned out of a truck and put into another, repair points can only come from certain addons and trailers. Look for a truck capable of fitting the Van Body Addon or Roof Rack. Anything that has repair points.

Unfortunately, some trucks are better for this particular task than others because some relevant addons only give you repair points and spare tyres. Meaning you would need to bring a fuel trailer or hope you had enough fuel spare from your own tank.

Meanwhile other addons such as the Azov 73210’s Large Maintenance Frame Addon give you loads of fuel and spare tyres. But not enough repair points. The equivalent trailers are also plenty of one but not the other.

That is why I am using the Kirovets K-7M tractor and its unique Van Body addon, which has 600 repair points and 180 litres of fuel. So you will need to give the Step 39331 “Pike” some fuel from your own tank to complete the task.

You could also use a scout such as the Ford F 750, which has enough of everything if you fit all three of its best vehicle repair and refuel addons.

The route

As for the route, getting around in Season 8 is fairly painless if you stick to the main tarmac and dirt roads. The shortest journey in distance is from The Crossroads garage to the gate in the northwest.

But you could also go from the Village Garage in Heartlands and head east across fields or take a longer, easier route on tarmac north then east. Use the routes on screen and, if possible, fit a decent engine, raise the suspension and use off-road or mud tyres.

It can seem tempting to deviate using a shorter distance shortcut. However, SnowRunner Season 8: Grand Harvest can be punishing. Deadly mud, pits of doom, mountainous moguls – sticking to train tracks, tarmac and dirt trails is usually best.

Once you reach the Step 39331 “Pike” in The Institute, pull up close, switch off your engine and then use the function menu to repair and fill up the broken down truck. Use the relevant buttons to toggle between the fuel source and recipient.

Once the Pike has enough repair points and fuel, the task will end and you will receive it and the task rewards. Now you can go into the function menu, select ‘change truck’ and take your new ride for a spin.

At this point, you can either realistically drive it to a garage or go into the function menu and hit recover. Ya big cheat – just kidding.
