Top 3 WORST things about Hot Wheels Unleashed

Hot Wheels Unleashed is bags of fun, but it has three major issues. Here is what I think they are, why and how to fix.

Hot Wheels Unleashed is an enjoyable slice of arcade racing cake, especially if you enjoy collecting nostalgia-inducing toy cars and building ridiculously impressive tracks.

Even though I am playing the preview of a very big racing game, I keep finding myself gravitating back. However, Hot Wheels Unleashed has some flaws that, if fixed, would greatly benefit the experience.

Subscribe, like, share and stick around for the three worst issues ranked from worser to worstest. These are now official English words, okay.

3) Make gold easier to get

Buying cars in Hot Wheels Unleashed involves saving up gold to use the Limited Offer store or buy Blind Boxes to let fate decide whether you get something new. It is not a bad system early on – the collecting aspect keeps you hooked.

Unfortunately, even when you have completed all bosses, all time attacks with two medals, all quick races with two medals and all nine secrets (guide in the description), you probably are still missing so many cars.

This leaves multiplayer as one of the remaining ways to afford new vehicles. Except some of you may not want to race here. And this has created an unexpected problem – some players are entering a race then going AFK or should that be AFC.

Why? Because Hot Wheels Unleashed does not penalise you for never moving from the start line. This is why you see people just waiting around at the start, creating an annoying obstruction and reducing the level of competition. It is just to collect the 30 or whatever gold at the end.

Easy fix: If you do not race then the player is kicked and no gold given. However, this might stop people from playing if another method of making gold is never introduced.

So my suggestion is to let each race in City Rumble give you the same reward or maybe better as you ramp up the difficulty. So in Extreme difficulty you might get a gold bonus or an extra Blind Box, Time attacks, meanwhile, could require an even faster time for greater rewards.

You could even have a bonus car or something special for the Basement upon completing all races at medium, hard and extreme. Seems to me like an easy way to extend the life of the Hot Wheels Unleashed career mode.

2) Blind Box blues

Less worser, lol, is the issue of Blind Box duplicates. Out of every box I’ve had during the entire Hot Wheels Unleashed career, I received one particular car six times and another at least three. Yes, you can dismantle or sell them depending on whether you want repair gears or gold, respectively.

However, it seems to slow the fun collecting vehicles aspect of Hot Wheels Unleashed to a stuck-in-traffic crawl. I still have 35 cars to unlock despite playing the game a lot and getting it early.

What could work better is a change of the Blind Box probability, increase the dismantle and sale values or, and this seems cool to me, have a Super Blind Box that costs more but removes the chance of getting a common car.

Another alternative would be to introduce a second-hand car store where you can sell to other players like in Forza Horizon 4. With custom liveries and all. I think at least one of those changes would be good.

1) Improve Community Track discovery

And the last whine-grumble-moan-thing from a cynical YouTuber concerns the track editor. Well, one particular aspect of it. Ignoring the fact you cannot swap between a stage and circuit layout without deleting everything. I learned that the hard way.

No, the first main problem is that you cannot access Community Tracks in Quick Race so no AI shenanigans. Even if the AI drove your custom circuits badly and fell off all the time it would be fun. Hot Wheels Unleashed is already lovably chaotic online.

Even worse, I think, is that when looking for Community Tracks in Time Attack you can only see 25 at once. Even fewer when you get to vote on which online multiplayer circuit or stage you want to race on.

This made me have to republish my custom drag race event so I could finish a video and it means that pretty quickly your creations disappear into the digital abyss. Unless you keep republishing and changing the name.

There should be a search function, especially as you get to choose two tags and a name for each track. Or maybe there could be a ‘best community tracks’ menu or even one that simply lists the ‘most popular’.

Because it seems a shame to squander away one of the most appealing things about Hot Wheels Unleashed. I have seen some absolutely awesome custom races that, sadly, most players will never see. Currently there’s not as much incentive to make use of that 100-slot limit.

And that is it for my Hot Wheels Unleashed worst things list. Let me know what you dislike about the game in the comments and maybe also what you love. Because karma. There is a chance the developers will see what you say. Subscribe, like and share if you would be so kind. Take care, bye.
