SnowRunner Expeditions: A MudRunner Game announced

Oh yes, we have a new game coming from Saber Interactive called Expeditions: A MudRunner Game. Here is the trailer and what we know so far.

So, yes, I spent a day making a video about the rumblings of a new SnowRunner game. Then, because the Internet can be super speedy, it became outdated in a few hours. Because Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment just dropped a new trailer.

I am talking about the trailer for Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, which is going to be released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Expeditions: A MudRunner Game

Exactly when? Well, 2024 seems most likely. Potentially April onwards based on Spin Tires, MudRunner and SnowRunner. However, I have not seen official confirmation.

What can we expect? So far, the official SnowRunner Discord description reads that you can utilise drones to scout ahead and a metal detector to detect metal. Based on the trailer and name, scouting definitely seems like the main flavour.

There will also be “cutting-edge gadgets” such as anchors to ascend particularly steep climbs, with a maximum weight of 30,000lb, and echo sounders to probe water depths so your truck does not become a boat and maybe to find items beneath. A feature from Spin Tires.

Most radical, though, will be the ability to build research structures and unlock new skills as you try to complete these new expeditions. This might not be to the level of Command & Conquer, but perhaps it will be more involving than the way SnowRunner works.

Interestingly, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game does reveal that there will be trucks with cargo beds. So Saber Interactive may not have thrown that premise entirely out the window. There is a glimpse of a KRS 58 “Bandit” though nothing on the flatboard bed.

Visually, supposedly it is the same game engine but with what appears to be visual improvements. What is obvious is more varied terrain, with landscapes and objects unseen so far in SnowRunner. Though we do still have two seasons to go so that could change.

The trailer also shows a more complex rack system where you can select individual items to go on top or at the back such as small repair units and extra fuel. This will allow you to really tailor your truck to each expedition.

Now, what I cannot yet answer is whether Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is a sort of smaller spin-off or will be a multi-season epic like SnowRunner. If it is not, maybe we will get a Year 4 Pass. If it is, then perhaps the Year 3 Pass will be the last.

Given what appears to be a scout focus, both games could definitely co-exist. But without seeing much in the way of tasks it is hard to judge if Expeditions: A MudRunner Game will feature a significant cargo delivery aspect or not.

All I know is that those rumblings of a MudRunner mobile-based sequel can be put to sleep, which personally I am very happy about. Will Steam be the main aim for PC gamers this time around or Epic Games? That I also cannot answer.

For now, praise the SnowRunner gods we are getting more trucking goodness and apologies for the delay in making this video. I may not always be the first, but that is partly because I care about getting things right. As always, look after yourselves. Until next time. Take care, bye.
