SnowRunner Season 11: Everything explained

The SnowRunner Season 11 update is on the Public Test Server. Here is everything we know so far and why I took so long to tell you about it.

Hello and welcome to A Tribe Called every time I go on holiday loads of relevant gaming news happens, including confirmation of the new EA SPORTS WRC game from Codemasters and, erm, EA.

Yes, remember me going to Umeå in Sweden in February? Probably not. Well, that was to play WRC 23 as the new official rally game was formally known. Video coming soon, but first let me talk about the other major news that happened while I was away.

Please note: This is the script from my YouTube video, click play above to watch or go here.

That being, of course, SnowRunner Season 11: Lights & Cameras on the Public Test Server (PTS). A two-map extravaganza as part of the Year 3 Pass, set in Scandinavia of northern Europe. Scandinavia typically (but not always) referring to Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Mountain Ridge is the first new map and By the Lake is the second. Both feature, shock horror, some snow. Plus movie sets, tarmac trunk roads and muddier tree-lined pathways. Not exactly a radical departure in terms of visuals, but anyway.

The in-game description of Orestoke reads: “A historical-cultural region in Northern Europe, Scandinavia is one of the most beautiful places on earth, filled with countless forests, lakes, mountains, fjords, and more.

“The region attracts a tremendous number of tourists every year, which is why the small town of Orestoke has decided to build a ski resort. Moreover, a certain Scandinavian movie studio is building multiple movie sets in the area for a new project.

“Thanks to the supervision of the local environmental conversation agency, the safety of the local flora and fauna is in good hands,” the description concludes.

Skiing to success

Yes, the tasks revolve around building a ski resort, helping with the filming of a movie and constructing watch towers. At the time of writing, there are 35 contracts across Orestoke Resort Administration, Amberrow Pictures and the Nordic Environment Authority.

Each map is 2km or 1.24 miles by the same again and there are a total of five watchtowers, four of which are not available right away, adding a twist to the usual SnowRunner gameplay mechanics.

Generator usage makes a return, so go check out my guide if new to that. Plus we have abandoned structures seen in Yukon-based Season 2: Explore & Expand.

Cargo loads include an aircraft, movie trailer and more I shall get to in a second. Seemingly plenty to drag around in satisfying fashion though I will save my review for when I have played the maps properly.

Season 11 new trucks?

snowrunner season 11: lights & cameras

There are new Season 11 trucks, too, including the rather interesting Burlak 6×6 and its rear picnic table, and the much smaller Neo Falcon 2000 (another scout). The former currently has switchable AWD and Diff Lock, 69-inch Burlak 6×6 tyres and no raised suspension.

What makes the Burlak particularly interesting, unless things change in future PTS updates, is that it has giant wheels for a scout and can fit multiple repair and refuel addons simultaneously while retaining the autonomous winch.

The latter new truck is based on the Indian Mahindra Bolero. No relation to the Seat Bolero. It would seem the Neo bit is a reference to another generation model. It can pull scout trailers, has a wonderfully bland interior and can be fitted with a roof rack for added range and versatility.

That roof rack, for the keen-eyed viewer, uses the design seen in the Expeditions: A MudRunner Game trailer I have been banging on about recently. Yes, this is the first example of that promised asset sharing in action.

Sadly, for a European map, there is not even a whiff of a European truck. So mods will just have to do for now unless we get some sort of truck pack later on.

Truck changes

As for existing trucks, the Kenworth 963 I reviewed now has its oilfield bed and a utility kit with two spare wheels. Meanwhile, numerous trucks including the range-limited Azov 5319 and Zikz 612H ‘Mastodon’ can utilise the Multi-Purpose Cargo Module addon.

Said Multi-Purpose Cargo Module has 100 litres of fuel, 250 repair points and two spare wheels. Plus a crane, which adds to the usefulness of the DAN 96320, and retains one slot of cargo space.

Then there is the Large Service Scout Trailer, which as the name suggests is made for scout class vehicles and is suitably large. It features 600 repair points, which is generous, but no spare wheels or extra fuel.

Want something similar but smaller? It is your lucky day, as the latest SnowRunner Season 11 update adds a Service Scout Trailer, which is not so large and has a smaller number of repair points. 250, if you were curious, as well as 150 litres of fuel and two spare tyres.

What else is new?

Coolest of all though is the Movie Trailer, which is where actors get to sit in between shoots. Enjoying Coke-a-Cola, treading on the souls of poor people and posting political opinions on what used to be called Twitter.

There is also a new cargo type known as the Cable Car, which will prove immensely useful in building a ski resort. Because walking to the top of a mountain in ski or snowboard boots is obviously not ideal. As for those who love stickers, well, there are ten more.

The latest SnowRunner PTS update has also fixed various issues including the suspension collision of the Mack Defense M917 and some other fixes related to localisation and the two new Season 11 trucks.

As usual, some of this stuff will be available to all regardless of whether you buy SnowRunner Season 11: Lights & Cameras and/or own the Year 3 Pass. Just not the two new maps or two new trucks.

When is the release date? I cannot answer that, as nothing has been officially announced and we may see further SnowRunner Season 11: Lights & Cameras updates on the Public Test Server.
