SnowRunner Tatra Dual Pack DLC released

The SnowRunner Tatra Dual Pack has been released. Here is what to expect, how to get it and my first impressions of the two European trucks.

Which is best, a new map or a new truck? You can decide while the new SnowRunner Tatra Dual Pack and update 14.1 installs. Yes, all however many gigabyte of trucking goodness is here so load up your PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or Xbox and away you go.

That is, if you have the Year 2 Pass. Yes, the first fruit has fallen from the season 2 pass tree. Otherwise you will have to buy it for a few pounds, dollars, euros or magic beans if your name is Jack and you were born in a childhood fairy tale.

Unfortunately, according to the SnowRunner devs, buying the DLC separately is a problem. “Please note,” the warning on Discord reads, “that if you get the Tatra Dual Pack separately, it will mechanically prevent you from getting the Year 2 Pass”. Brilliant.

To install, try to run SnowRunner if it is not updating already. An update is necessary before you can add the Tatra Dual Pack. To do that, go into your relevant store. Search for the Tatra Dual Pack and then install it if it wasn’t there already.

Both new trucks in SnowRunner are from Czech manufacturer Tatra Trucks, which means some European trucking for the first time ever. Instead of the usual Russian and American. Maybe we will get Volvo or Renault, after all.

Tatra Dual Pack: The Tatra 813

Anyway the first new truck is the Heavy Class Tatra 813, which was manufactured from 1967 to 1982. That means it may have a tape player. But more importantly, it is 14,000 kilograms or 31,000 pounds, has eight 50-inch wheels and can tow 100 tons.

Powered by a 1.0-litre petrol, just kidding. A naturally-aspirated V12 has the job of moving all eight wheels and its steel construction, which can make it over 0.6-metre tall vertical obstacles, 1.4 metre wide trenches and 1.4 metre deep puddles.

In SnowRunner you can expect a choice of three engines, two with an S+ power-to-weight rating although I suspect this is broken, four gearboxes including the Advanced Special and Multipurpose, no raised suspension, 50-inch Allterrain, Off-Road, Mud and Chained tires, engageable Diff-Lock and AWD and a snorkel that looks like a pair of golf clubs.

Addons are limited, but at least the Tatra Sideboard Bed, Roof Rack and Saddle High are all useful. Plus you can slap on some roof lights, dangerous-looking bumpers, horns, symmetrical exhaust systems and a very cool DLC paintjob. That would look at home in Glastonbury.

The Tatra 805

Then we have the Tatra 805. It has four fewer wheels, round headlights and weighs substantially less than its Tatra 813 sibling. I found one for sale for 5,000 euros so if anyone wants to chip in. Just kidding. Kind of.

According to a random website I found, correct me if I’m wrong, the Tatra 805 had the slang name of ‘duck’. Yes I mean the flying pond-dweller with a curly you-know-what.

The same website claims it was a “typical truck of the Czechoslovak People’s Army”, performing various duties such as being an ambulance, fire truck and for radio. In later life it delivered coal on a flatbed, an addon also found in the SnowRunner version.

You can also equip the Offroad class Tatra 805 with one of four engines, all of which with an S+ power-to-weight rating so definitely broken. Plus four gearboxes including the Fine-Tune, Highrange and Offroad, no raised suspension, 37-inch Highway, Allterrain, Off-Road, Mud and Chained tires, engageable Diff-Lock and AWD and two snorkels.

One has a Y-shape design and is more expensive but given that both are the same height it may prove better to go with the Front Facing variant. This is because your un-drowned engine is only as strong as the height of one of the outlets.

Addons are more plentiful for the Tatra 805 as you get a Small Sideboard Bed, Roof Rack, Maintainer Frame and Small Fuel Carrier. Plus various customisation options including beacons that make it look like an alien, metal cage front bumper and two sun visors.

Are the new Tatra trucks good?

As a small but nimble truck, the Tatra 805 is more about scouting than anything else. Maybe some mobile repair and refuelling escapades, too, or perhaps just for fun. As big metal objects go, it is really rather cute.

Do I like it? Not really. It is good off-road but, like the pre-nerf Khan Marshall, it is too fast for its own good and therefore you spend most of the time trying to keep it straight. In a game where control is useful and given that it is not a scout so no Autonomous Winch, I will probably not use it that much.

On the other hand, the Tatra 813 is really not cute in the slightest. It has Azov 73210 and Zikz 605R long-boi vibes in terms of appearance and utility. Not a bad thing as both are superb off-roaders and highly functional.

Is the Tatra 813 and its highly sociable cabin as capable? Not particularly, but it is nice for variety and really good on fuel. Fairly speedy. However, I found myself getting stuck on pebbles like the Azov 64131, which was voted SnowRunner’s best truck. Which it isn’t. Ice is an issue too.

Really, I’m just utterly afraid of how expensive it will be to keep replacing the tyres because of uneven tyre wear. Just look at the camber on the Tatras, the Tower of Pisa leans less. And, no, that is not a SnowRunner thing. Here is a photo of the real truck.

What else is in the SnowRunner 14.1 update?

As for free stuff in the sizable 14.1 update, let’s not get too excited. It is mostly bug fixes that have been mentioned in the official patch notes although stuff is usually left out for eager-eyes to discover.

General fixes include fixing a bug where metal rolls could disappear after creation at Black Badger lake in co-op. Fixed a bug where the player automatically entered customize menu after repairing his truck in the garage in hard mode. Improved game performance while playing on ultra settings. Good news for high-end gaming PCs.

Not only that, Saber has fixed conflicts in control schemes B and D; fixed a bug where the ‘Log Trailer’ mounting fell under the terrain after detaching. Also fixed a bug where metal detector sounds were not working in some cases.

Fixed a bug where the truck engine was disabled immediately when the player changed the truck; fixed a bug where the marker was missing on the minimap during the task Log Crossing.

Meanwhile those who play on Steam should now be able to delete local save files. Those on Nintendo Switch, will see improved draws distance for objects like grass and stones and a bug has been fixed that saw engine sounds interrupted in some cases

As for trucks, Saber has fixed a bug where the stock bumper of ZiKZ 605R was locked after buying the winch pipe, another where the “Snub Heatshielded” exhaust on the International HX 520 collided with the Logging Frame Add-on, improved suspension collision for Khan 317 Sentinel and Zikz 605R and added additional crane sockets for Khan Sentinel.

And that is it for this SnowRunner Tatra Dual Pack DLC video. Go forth and download it then tell me what you think about these trucks in the comments. Or let me know if you have any SnowRunner video ideas – I have a list but it’s always good to hear from you lot.
