The Ultimate Forza Horizon 4 Guide: How to Make Money Fast and More

Forza Horizon 4 guide: A Tribe Called Cars gives you the lowdown, from every Barn Find location and the best steering wheel settings to the fastest cars, fastest way to get skill points, best way to make money and how to get those Forza Edition beasts to name a few things.

Forza Horizon 4 is now available (PC, Xbox One), which means everyone is driving around like lunatics while trying to soak up the British countryside. Only without the smell of manure. Boasting more to do than in Forza Horizon 3, a good guide should prove useful for those who want conquer everything, fast and efficiently.

With so much to cover, I will be adding to my Forza Horizon 4 guide as new stuff is discovered. So bookmark it, print it out, frame it, convert it to Braille – do whatever you have to but make sure you revisit and check out my Forza Horizon 4 review. With that in mind, on with the show. Forza Horizon 4 guide: How to get every Forza Edition car

The most obvious way to get Forza Edition (FE) cars is to win them using a Wheelspin and Super Wheelspin, though the chance is low. Having played for 25 hours or so, I have only ever won two in this way so it is a slow-burner, especially as there are allegedly 42 of them in total. But then you are given these lucky spins for doing practically anything in the game.

You can also buy Forza Edition cars at auction, which also means you may get a tuning setup and paintjob as well. Doing it this way guarantees you get the exact Forza Edition car you want (you can search for specific models under the Auction tab) and, if you are patient, you can snag a bargain.

Then there is the Forzathon shop, which you can buy stuff from using Forzathon points. These are earned doing certain challenges, some daily and some weekly as the seasons change. While saving up 300 Forzathon points takes time (that is the price of the Bentley Continental GT Forza Edition), at least you avoid getting yet another pair of ‘comedy’ trousers.

Something you may not know is that you can buy Forza Edition cars when you buy a normal car. For instance, the TVR Sagaris costs around 86,000. Go into its perks and at the very top you will see the option to turn it into a TVR Sagaris Forza Edition for 99 skill points. Cars with this option include (please let me know in the comments if you know of anymore):

Please note: Buying a car at auction means there is a chance the person who owned the car before you has already purchased the perk, which means they get the Forza Edition car and you do not. So where possible, buy a new car or wait until you win it. Or, if you have loads of money, just keep buying at auction and hope somebody failed to notice those perks.

Forza Horizon 4 guide: Fastest way to get Skill Points

That leads me to another really useful tip in Forza Horizon 4, the fastest way to get skill points. Get yourself into a drift car such as the Hoonigan (500,000 credits) or one of the cars from the Formula Drift Car Pack (free with the Ultimate Edition version of the game) then head to the air strip. Now spend some skill points you already have on perks that boost your drift score, drift chain and even the perk that lets you hit an obstacle and maintain your chain (accidents happen!).

Now all you have to do is drift up and down until you make 50,000 points from one chain, which is relatively easy when you knock into the cones, trees, crates, bins and other small debris on each side of the runway for the 1,949-point ‘Sideswipe’ bonus. At 50,000 points, you get one skill point. Make 500,000 points and you are awarded the maximum of 10 skill points per skill chain.

When you get good enough, it is possible to earn 10 skill points in around a minute and a half, especially if you buy the house that provides Skill Songs that double the points you earn. Unless you have the 7x multiplier unlocked, in which case it takes the total to 10. In the case of the BMW M6 ’13, another 10 per cent can be gained from being in a convoy.

There are three cars in the game that provide a drift bonus, the aforementioned BMW M6 ’13, Caterham R500 and the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series. Buy one of these at auction (or upgrade to one using skill points) and you will be more efficient in the long run. Of the three, the M6 has the best bonuses, the Mercedes sounds the best and the R500 is super quick on the road, too, but sometimes loses a chain to small objects because of its smaller size.

To be super duper efficient, bank your points at the most efficient time. So with a 7x multiplier, you only need 72,000-ish points. Or 6x 84,000 or 10x 50,000. The maximum number of skill points you can get from a single chain is 10 so avoid wasting time getting unnecessarily big scores – except for the one-of-a-kind Gamerscore reward. Around 600 skill points an hour is possible if you are efficient.

Banking drift chains is one thing that reduces your hourly output quite significantly. To make this a non-issue, work your way up the Drag Strip events until you unlock a race at the airstrip. Now simply ensure the end of your chain happens near this event, go into the event, setup a race and then back out. Voila, no waiting around for your points to be converted.

Forza Horizon 4 guide: Fastest way to earn credits

Some cars also give you a large sum of money just buy purchasing the perk using skill points (see above for how to grind them fast). Every Formula Drift car, for instance, awards 300,000. A nice easy way to make 2.1 million, eh?

You could actually buy said Formula Drift cars for less than 300,000 using the Auction House and then upgrade the perk, giving you a credits profit. The issue with this is that as more and more people learn the trick, the greater the chance the car you are buying from auction has already had this perk upgraded. Plus it takes time, but then you can still make money if you are lucky.

There are a number of other cars that have the same perk, which can be bought new to avoid the issue of buying a car without the ability to unlock the 300,000 credits, but only a few cost less than what you gain in money from the perk.

One is the Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 from 1982. You then need to spend 19 skill points to reach the money perk. Rinse and repeat until rich (and very bored). Combine this with the skill points trick above to be make money as fast as possible. You can also buy the Nissan Fairlady ’69 and do the same thing as it has the same skill perk cost to reach the 300,000 boost.

Another option – and perhaps the most interesting – is to setup a custom race. Pick a circuit with short laps, bump up the difficulty to as high as possible and all assists off (it is worth learning to drive without them for the bonus credits) and then set to 50 laps. Find a fast car that minces everything in its class and then, after quite a long race, reap a considerable amount of credits and influence.

For even more credits, you can do the same thing but in the Goliath Race, which sees you racing around the edge of the entire map. The rewards are even greater (like, really great) but you will need to set aside quite a lot of time and get to Street Racing level 20 for it to unlock.

You could also auction cars, smash through the game as quickly as possible using a fast car (Zonda FE, for instance), three-medal every jump and speed camera and create and sell custom paintjobs. Credits are made quite fast in Forza Horizon 4, just by doing the normal stuff and from Wheelspins / Superwheelspins, so you can avoid the grind. Unless you want Edinburgh Castle fast. Speaking of which.

How to tune in Forza Horizon 4

Tuning a car in Forza Horizon 4 can be a nightmare! So I decided to make a video with 10 tuning tips that hopefully will make life easier. I’m actually in the process of making a super in-depth tuning guide so be sure to subscribe to the A Tribe Called Cars YouTube channel. Forza Horizon 4: The best steering wheel setups

While you can have a search on the Internet for your specific steering wheel and find a setup, it is worth having a read of this post, which explains what every setting does: Wheel Setup & Tuning.

I find the official Forza Horizon 4 forums have decent setup advice for the most common steering wheels such as the Logitech G920.

It appears a recent update to the game has improved how steering wheels work in-game (including, it appears, the Thrustmaster TS-XW P310 Competition Mod I use), which means you it may be worth having another go to see if your wheel is now better supported. But my Fanate CSL Elite is really not great, you are better off sticking with a controller.

Forza Horizon 4 glitches

UPDATE: This has since been patched so it no longer works!

You may want to avoid doing the following glitch because apparently you can be banned. You have been warned.

All you need to do is pair up with a friend who has the Goliath race, set it to the hardest difficulty and laps to 50 (both increase the rewards), then get one player to drive over the line and then the other (who is the host) quits.

The player who remained gets rewarded as if they completed the race. Do this again, but swap who quits and who remains so everyone gets a taste of the ridiculous credit and influence boost.
