Moza R12 Direct Drive and KS steering wheel explained

Sim racing company Moza Racing has just unveiled its latest creations, the Moza R12 Direct Drive Wheel Base and KS steering wheel.

The mid-range Moza R12 Direct Drive Wheel Base promises a stable 12Nm of “stable and realistic torque”, according to its maker, while utilising elements of the more expensive flagship R21.

Costing £589/€599/$559, the Moza R12 uses a very similar design to the R9 except that it is longer, has a thinner driveshaft and comes with a new illuminated Moza power supply.

That means the same black stealthy design and the Moza quick release system for rapid changes of the steering wheel. Plus electronics designed to ensure low latency, silent operation, smooth movement and high levels of force feedback.

Speaking of which, this is the first product from Moza Racing that uses its “new generation force feedback filtering algorithm”. How exactly that translates in real is unclear without testing, but reviews seem positive when it comes to feeling what your digital car is up to.

Perhaps in light of those scary moments where the motor spins the wheel rapidly without warning, the Moza R12 includes ‘hands-off protection’. Let go and the R12 will stop any oscillation and centre the wheel.

Designed for use with a PC, the Moza R12 works with all steering wheels in the Moza Racing range except for the CS V1 and GS V1 GT wheels and the RM HD Digital Dash.

Supported games, meanwhile, include (but not limited to) F1 2018 to F1 2022, WRC Generations, all Project Cars games, Forza Horizon 5, Automobilista 1 and Automobilista 2, Wreckfest, BeamNG.Drive, Euro Truck Simulator and iRacing.
