Expeditions: A MudRunner Game release date revealed

The SnowRunner spin-off, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, now has a release date. Here is when that is, plus the latest official trailer and everything else I could find out.

Remember when I said I can talk about a certain game on the 9^th of January 2024? Well, maybe that game is connected to Expeditions: A MudRunner Game. Or maybe not. I’m currently in a mince pie haze so who knows what is true anymore.

But what is fact, according to publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive, is that Expeditions: A MudRunner Game now has a release date. The date to put in your diary, carve out in stone or draw out in sand – whatever floats your boat – is the 5^th of March 2024.

Apparently that will be a Tuesday if that matters? Either way, expect to drive various trucks, some of which I shall talk about in a second, across difficult terrain. Just like in SnowRunner, only with more gadgets.

Yes, go-go gadget goodness including a base camp where your drives begin and end, a trusty winch, binoculars to check out your surroundings and points of interest, and a drone to scout ahead by up to 180 metres so you can avoid taking those infamous shortcuts that are neither short nor a cut.

The trailer also reveals addons including a high-mount snorkel, bull-bar bumper and an extended sunvisor, all of which we have seen in SnowRunner. We have not, however, seen the rear-mounted roof rack or the echo sounder.

No, nothing to do with Ecco the Dolphin. Well, kind of. The echo sounder presumably bounces noise around underwater so it can work out how far to the bottom and also see if there is anything else down there such as buried treasure or broken TUZ 420 Tatarins.

Vehicles below 15,000lbs or 6,803kg can also go rock climbing, thanks to the new heavy advanced winch. With a range of 20 metres and made from waterproof synthetic rope, you can scale slopes that are undrivable.

A bridge too far

The Expeditions: A MudRunner Game release date trailer also reveals a retractable bridge, capable of supporting 45,000lbs or 20,411kg. Just about enough to carry a week’s worth of biscuits for my Discord members. Only with certain mods could you use something similar in SnowRunner.

Not only that, we are teased with something called the removable anchor. This reusable item basically acts as a winch point when there is nothing else around, helping you pull yourself out of isolated mud pits. It supports up to 30,000lbs or 13,607kg.

Feeling deflated

Now, as mentioned in my last Expeditions: A MudRunner Game video, you can also inflate or deflate your tyres, depending on the surface requirements. More air helps with fuel efficiency as rolling resistance is decreased, but less air can improve traction.

Then we have the jack screw, which is used in real life to lift a vehicle off the ground. In Expeditions, it returns a tipped over vehicle to its normal horizontal state. Useful for idiots like me though it could adversely affect difficulty if this is reusable like the removable anchor.

What about the vehicles?

Vehicles spotted so far in Expeditions: A MudRunner Game include the Khan 39 Marshall, TUZ 16 ‘Actaeon’, Tatra 805, Yar 87, Kahn L04F AKA the UAZ 452, KRS 58 ‘Bandit’, ANK MK38, International Loadstar 1700, Don 71, Cotco Canyon, Step 310E, Scout 800 and the TUZ 108 ‘Warthog’.

Though clearly not set in Wiltshire, you do see the overall aim of the Expeditions trailer is to reach a not-Stonehenge legendary stone checkpoint, with coordinates written below. Then various other interesting checkpoints, suggesting scouting is very much the main event.

Enough to keep SnowRunner fans busy? Perhaps, especially as the trailer video description mentions building and managing your base and the ability to hire experts to improve your skills. I will be investigating whether Expeditions feels like a standalone game or a DLC-esque spin-off.

As mentioned before, stuff seen in Expeditions has a chance of being added to SnowRunner. Exactly what and when, I have not yet been told. This alone would suggest the Year 4 Pass is a thing, but more about that another day.

Which platforms?

Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam and maybe Epic) on the same 5^th of March 2024 release date. Those who pre-order the game get ‘the Great Don 71’ at launch. The developer’s words, not mine.
